A day I was not wanting....

It is with great sadness that I post this update.....Last night Eric took a turn for the worst. He did not do very well on Christmas day...refusing to eat or take any pills. About 12am (the 26th) I had to call the hospice nurse and ask for some morphine and anti-anxiety medicine. His pain was so bad and his restlessness that he was moaning and rolling around in agony. He just does not setting into a peaceful place. I have been consistent with the medicine every 2 hours and so far it seems that he starts to get very restless just about the 2 hour mark. I knew this day would come but like everyone else I was hoping that it would never make it.

Thank you for all your prayers and thoughts.....Eric is surrounded by love and we ask for continued prayers for Eric to have peace and rest.

My heart is still completely with you and I have asked many others to pray for you.

The most important thing right now (literally speaking) is keeping Eric comfortable. If he is still moaning or rolling or fidgety in any way, call Hospice and they will alter the meds. We got a 24 hour nurse the last few days because although Bill was in a coma, he was still agitated. They gave us the 24 hour help when I explained that a medication given hourly isn't exactly healthy for the caregiver. Your health matters too! The friends and family you have helping you should get to be your support, not Eric's nurse... just my opinion. If you need any advice with hospice or nursing care, please let me know and I can give you some "pointers".

My offer still stands... I will make any and all arrangements!!

Hallie,
You are doing all you can do, all that is humanly possible. NEVER doubt that, never think, if only I had done more, for there is nothing. Eric knows you love him and that you are there for him no matter what and that you're doing all you can do. Like we talked about the other day, in sickness, health....There is no one else that Eric would want taking care of him right now and there must be some peace in that for him, if not physically, then certainly spiritually...I second what your friend Jackie says: You have to take care of yourself too Hallie, let hospice do their thing...Take care of Hallie so that Hunter will have all of you when he needs you..I am sending all my love and huge hugs to you guys...

Sweet Hallie,
I wish we could have come in person to wish you a happy birthday in spite of everything, but DeWayne has shingles on his face and eye so needless to say our wishes come via Internet. My prayers continue for Eric and for you and Hunter, for God's peace, mercy and strength.

Dearest Hallie, Eric held true to his wish and yours that he was here for Christmas and your birthday. I pray the rest of his journey will be pain free, as I know it must be hard on you to see him in any discomfort. You, Eric and Hunter on are the first thing I think about in the morning and the last at night. I love you and pray for Eric's comfort. Maureen F
